The idea of scalpers taking a high number of trades a day is a misconception. Contrary to popular belief, successful scalpers exhibit a tremendous amount of patience. Most will wait on the sidelines and wait for their signals to appear. The successful scalpers I know are taking 1-3 trades a day, and sometimes less. Hope that clears some things up.
