Most Brokers automatically roll forward open positions following the close of their trading day. This allows you to keep your positions open for days/weeks/months without having to realise a profit or loss if you have adequate funds in the account to cover your margin requirements. The amount paid or earned on the roll depends on the direction of the open position and the interest rate differential between the two currencies involved.
